RHOAS
Graece ᾽Ροιὰς vel Ῥοὰς, dicta est Laodicea ad Lycum, cum prius Diospolis nomen haberet, tandem Diocaesarea dicta. Nempe Laodicea dicta est, ab uxore Antiochi Stratonice gentili, qui illam condidit; Διόςπολις, Oraculi iussu; Rhoas vero, διὰ τὸ ἔυςειςτον, quod terrae motibus frequenter quaterctur, quasi fluidam dicas et in lubrico sitam. Uti μήκων ῥοὰς vel ῥοιὰς Graece genus papaveris est, fluidum habentis florem et protinus deciduum; et genus vitis ῥοὰς, quod cito folia amitteret. Folia quippe ῥέειν et ἀποῤῥέειν dicuntur, quae decidunt, ut et capilli. Vide Salmas. ad Solin. p. 828. et 829. ut et in voce Laodicea.
